✨ Cookie Policy 2024

The EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) came into force across the EU on 25th May 2018 which now applies to all the websites that you visit which are in the EU including the UK.

In order to be compliant we have put together a short guide to help you understand more on cookies and what cookies we use on glitzybingo.uk.

Cookies and the law

Most websites today use cookies in some way, and it is unlikely that the majority of those browsing the net even notice cookies working away in the background as they browse the net.

With the GDPR, the user consent must be given before a cookie is set on your computer/mobile device, so that only strictly necessary and performance cookies are initially set.

What are Cookies

If you are wondering what a cookie is, first it isn't the type you eat! A cookie is a term given to a simple text.

When you visit a website that uses cookies for the first time, a cookie file will be downloaded onto your PC or Mobile. The next time you visit that website, your device checks to see if it that a cookie that is relevant and sends the information stored in that cookie back to the website that you are browsing. This site then ’knows’ that you have been here before, and in some cases, will tailor advertising, pops up and more which can potentially enhance your experience on the site for the better.

Some cookies might also monitor how long you have spent on each page on the website, what pages you visit, or even your preferences for page layouts and colour schemes. They can also be used to store data on what is in your ‘shopping cart’, adding items as you click.

Strictly Necessary Cookies

These cookies are essential in order to enable you to move around the website and use its features, such as accessing secure areas of the website. Without these cookies services you have asked for, like shopping baskets or e-billing, cannot be provided.

Performance Cookies

These cookies collect information about how visitors use a website, for instance which pages visitors go to most often, and if they get error messages from webpages. These cookies don’t collect information that identifies a visitor. All information these cookies collect is aggregated and therefore anonymous. It is only used to improve how a website works.

How to Manage Cookies?

Most sites will draw your attention to their cookie policy by a popup when you first visit the homepage but don't be put off by this, this is to inform you that there are cookies on the website. With options to either accept, close or deny the cookies (this is different between websites).

You can, of course, manage how cookies are stored on your machine within your browser, but generally, the role of cookies can be beneficial especially when shopping online, as disabling cookies could prevent a website from working. But at least with the GDPR law, any concerns that you have about privacy and your personal data has been addressed.

As all our cookies are statistical to monitor visits anonymously, in accordance with the latest guidance from ICO we have adopted an ‘implied consent’ policy. (ICO Cookie guide). If you are not happy for cookies to be set on your device you can:

  • Discontinue use of this site
  • Delete the cookies following your visit within your browser
  • Browse the site using your browser’s anonymous setting (Incognito in Chrome, InPrivate for Internet Explorer, Private Browsing in Firefox, Safari, etc)

Please note that deleting our cookies or disabling our future cookies means that you may not be able to access certain areas or features of our website in the future.

You can find out how to manage, block and delete cookies at AboutCookies.org.
