Brief History of Paddy Power
Paddy Power is an Irish bookmaker which was founded in 1988 by the merger of forty betting shops from three Irish bookmakers.
At the end of 2005, Paddy Power operated 195 betting shops (150 based in Ireland and 45 in the United Kingdom). On 27th May 2008, the company acquired Northern Ireland independent bookmaker McGranaghan Racing, bringing Paddy Power's outlets to 191 in Ireland. In February 2010, the betting chain owned 356 bookies across Ireland, Northern Ireland and in Great Britain.
In 2001 Paddy Power launched online betting in Ireland and in the UK followed by their online casino in 2004. Paddy Power Bingo launched online in 2006 operating on the Parlay bingo software until it switched platforms in 2009 to Playtech / Virtue Fusion software.
Brief History of Betfair
Betfair was founded in early 2000 by Andrew Black and Edward Wray; Softbank purchased 23% of the company in 2006, and in the same year the group completed the purchase of the horseracing publishing company Timeform.
In 2007, Betfair launched its own Radio service, which is now known as Timeform Radio broadcasting horse racing commentary and results.
In 2009, the company purchased TVG Network in the United States and in the same year Betfair made a deal with the New York Racing Association to allows Betfair's customers to wager ion Aqueduct's thorough breeding races.
In 2011, the company moved some of its operations to Gibraltar, and in 2012, Sportsbook (fixed-odds betting) was launched to compete with traditional bookmakers.
Betfair entered into a partnership with Net Entertainment NE AB in 2014, and they expanded its reach into the UK gaming market.
