Richard argues that Littler wins something like 85% of individual legs against a good amateur, which sounds like a stroll. But winning 85% once and winning it twenty times in a row are very different things. String twenty of those together and the odds of getting through the whole night unbeaten drop off a cliff.

He put Littler's chance of surviving all twenty legs at around 15%, which would mean an 85% chance that somebody walks off with the £501,000. Cracking headline.

Although, looking at those figures, those two numbers don't quite add up. If Littler really did win 85% of every leg and each one was its own separate roll of the dice, his chance of winning all twenty would be nearer 4%, not 15%.

So either the per-leg figure is higher than 85% against these particular players, or the 15% is a rough guess for the telly show.

Either way, don't take the exact percentages to the bank. The point underneath them is sound though: even a monster favourite gets vulnerable when you make him do it over and over.

Men and Women, Same Oche, Same Shot

While I know we have a dedicated page for the Women's Darts players, unfortunately they haven’t beaten Luke yet, so they don’t get a show right now.

But this isn't a men's event or a women's event. It's open to everyone. The twenty challengers stepping up to that oche will be a mix of blokes and women, all amateurs, all with the exact same one leg and the exact same half a million on the line. No separate draw, no handicap, no fuss. Just whoever can nail a leg of 501 before Luke Littler does.

And that's a lovely thing to see in darts, a sport that's finally starting to give the women's game the spotlight it's earned. When the prize is identical, and the challenge is identical, it stops being a men's story or a women's story and just becomes a good one.

We'll be watching to see who actually lands it. Wouldn't it be something if the person who beat the best player in the world, live on Netflix, for half a million quid, turned out to be a woman nobody outside her local league had heard of the week before.

Richard Osman, for his part, reckons somebody's going to win the money. Littler, who's spent 2026 winning more or less everything he's turned up to, will have other ideas.

Either way, twenty ordinary players getting one crack at a life-changing sum against the world number one is exactly the kind of daft, brilliant, nervy telly that earns its evening. We'll be tuning in, and we'll have our fingers crossed for the underdogs. Especially the ones throwing to prove a point.
